Privacy Policy
altgo is a local-first desktop application. The project does not collect telemetry, analytics or usage statistics, and it does not operate any servers that receive user data. You decide in the settings which features access the network and what they send.
Data stored on this device
- Transcription history stores text only, never audio. It lives in
history.jsonin the configuration directory, at~/.config/altgo/history.jsonon Linux and%APPDATA%\altgo\history.jsonon Windows. On Unix the file is created with mode 0o600. - Settings live in
altgo.tomlin the same directory, including the API keys you enter. Keys are stored in plain text on this device and are only sent to the service endpoint you configure, as authentication credentials. - Transcription results are written to the system clipboard and are then managed by the system and the target application.
Network access
The application makes no network requests other than the following.
Online transcription (MiMo ASR)
When [transcriber] backend = "online" is set, the recording is encoded as WAV and sent to the api_base_url you configure, which defaults to https://token-plan-cn.xiaomimimo.com/v1. The request is handled by Xiaomi's MiMo service and is subject to its privacy policy. Audio is not retained on this device after the request completes.
Remote polishing
When a remote polishing provider is selected, the transcription, the built-in polishing prompt and the glossary you configured, if any, are sent to the api_base_url you configure, using either the OpenAI-compatible protocol or the Anthropic Messages API. The data is handled by that provider and is subject to its privacy policy. Local polishing and disabled polishing make no network requests.
Glossary candidate screening
A history entry that contains Chinese text offers "Check terms". This action asks the remote polishing provider for candidate glossary terms. Only that entry's raw transcript and, when it differs, its current text are sent to the api_base_url you configure, using the same protocol and provider as remote polishing. The AI only suggests candidates. Nothing is added to the glossary until you confirm. With the local polishing engine selected, no request is made and you can still add terms manually.
Model and runtime downloads
Local transcription models, local polishing models and the polishing runtime are downloaded on demand. Models come from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) or its mirror (hf-mirror.com), and the runtime comes from llama.cpp releases on GitHub. These requests contain only file and checksum information, never transcription content. ALTGO_MODEL_BASE_URL and ALTGO_POLISH_MODEL_BASE_URL can point to other sources.
Automatic updates
At startup and when checking for updates manually, the application queries https://github.com/ouyangjiahong26/altgo/releases/latest/download/latest.json for a new version. The request is handled by GitHub and contains no transcription content or keys.
External links
The documentation site, release pages and other external links open in your browser and are handled by the respective sites.
Third-party services
Online transcription is provided by Xiaomi's MiMo service. Remote polishing and glossary candidate screening are provided by the service you configure. Models and runtimes come from Hugging Face, GitHub and the llama.cpp project. Their data handling is governed by their respective privacy policies. altgo does not proxy or relay these requests.
Audio is not stored
Recordings are processed in memory on this device and discarded after transcription. They are never written to audio files.
Changes
This policy is updated with application releases. Significant changes are noted in the release notes.
